I was thinking of what to share for today so I've thought of sharing how I started my journey here at Epic. Let's start from the time when I was still applying for a job after college. Please bear with me as this might also take 20 years to finish. Just kidding. 😊
I told myself that I don't want to work night shift, not because of health issues or whatsoever, I just don't like it. So, when I applied to companies, I intentionally applied for day shift positions and blessed to have my first job as a marketing specialist in a training academy for a shipping staffing company. Unfortunately, it closed down after just being there for 7 months. But for me, it is a good thing. Why?
Because if it hasn't closed down, I wouldn't be here now. :) I applied to IQMan afterwards and got accepted. IQMan was the name of Cirrus before it became Epic. So, the first year was good and we had a lot of nurses being deployed to the US. Everyone was happy and busy. Then a year after, retrogression happened. It gave us plenty of unproductive hours while waiting for the retrogression to be lifted. And then in 2009, Ms. Jane started sending us projects, a lot of data entry, clean-ups, audits, formatting, uploading, research, you name it. I was challenged to search for ways to make things faster and efficient like how to separate or merge first names and last names for 30,000+ records. That's when I discovered simple text to columns, concatenate, vlookup, and a lot more amazing tools to help us complete all the projects thrown to us quickly.
So what started as projects only, paved the way to building the Manila Support Team, that is what we call the PH team before. Ms. Jane offered us, Mylene and I, to move to night shift, be vampires, disrupt our peaceful night sleep, and get bigger physically and professionally.
Since then, thankfully, I never regretted joining the team and be part of Epic Shared Services, yes, even if it's night shift. We started with Jobs encoding and Employment Verification with just 3 people. And look at how far we've grown, from 3 to 300+ employees right now with a lot of different services and support offered to the different BUs of Epic. I've never thought that we will grow this much and I've never thought I'll stay this long. And most importantly, I 've never thought that I'll enjoy it.
Moral of the story? Plans can change and nothing is final. You just have to be open for what might come your way and know that God has much better plans for each of us more than we can imagine.
And so 20 years later, I'm still here, ready to take on anything. Why? Because we don't just work here at Epic. We impact people's well-being, the lives of our clinicians and their patients. We build relationships with our colleagues, clients, and clinicians. We gain friends along the way. And we also build hope and opportunities for other people. It is so fulfilling to see your people grow, and achieve new heights and dreams.
And how are we able to do all of those? With the help, support, trust, and respect that we get from the people we work with. Epic has been very instrumental in showing us that our greatest assets are our people and I love how people-centric our culture is. And I am deeply grateful for all the blessings that I have received.
I won't mention each of your names coz it's a lot and that would add another 20 years to my message. But, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU SO SO MUCH! For the love, support, respect, and trust. It is my pleasure to have met and work with all of you.
Special thanks to Ms. Jane for being so supportive every step of the way. Thank you for believing in me since day 1.
I'll end this now before I cry. Cheers to more years with Epic! At muli, maraming salamat sa inyong lahat! 😊
