It’s Ber Months Already!

So much has happened this year. If you’ll think about it, it’s already September. September! We just had our New Year’s celebration, right? And now in less than 4 months, it will be New Year again. Can’t wait for this year to be over? Me too, I’m so looking forward to year 2021.

The question is, what have you learned this year? What has this pandemic taught you?

First, it’s hard to have an enemy that you can not see. It’s so hard to protect yourself from something that is invisible to the eye. It’s already in front of you yet you don’t know it yet. Worse, it has gone into your system already.

When the news of Covid-19 started at the beginning of 2020, or late 2019 in China, no one that I know of think of it as a big deal. Our lives were normal. We went to work, rode a jeepney or bus, talked to someone, and went anywhere like this is the safest place on earth. Come February, I started seeing some.. OK.. just a very few people wearing masks. Very few that you can count them with your fingers.

But then, news started to spread that there have been a few individuals being tested positive with the virus. More and more people started wearing masks until those who aren’t wearing one are the ones you can count. Now, everyone is afraid to be infected by the virus. So little yet so deadly. It has spread so fast. In a verge short span of time, it is now a global pandemic. OMG. What has happened? This has made 2020 a very bad year for everyone.

Mid-March, Manila and other parts of the country (and other countries as well, the whole world actually) were put into lockdown. Everything stopped. Stores and companies closed. Some companies went working from home. Stocks went to the floor. Employees were laid off. Hospitals were overpopulated. Everything went crazy.

I can say we are very lucky in our company that our industry plays a crucial role in this pandemic. We are fortunate that we were advised early to work from home. Truly, very grateful of this that we had the time and opportunity to come home to our family before the lockdown happened.

Second, when everything else fails, you have your family with you. They are the only people in your life who you can run to, who will support you, and who will love you unconditionally.

Third, life is short. Yes, one day you are just outside having a conversation with someone, the next day you are already running for your life. So spend your life with the ones you love. Don’t wait until it’s too late.

Fourth is to be thankful for whatever you have. I didn’t say to be contented then be lazy. Be grateful. Appreciate the people around you. Be thankful you have a job no matter how hard or stressful it is. Be thankful of the food on your table. Be grateful you are able to provide for your family and loved ones. Be very thankful you are alive.

As for me, I am beyond grateful.
